Marketing and Outreach VISTA
Join our team in September 2018 as our Marketing & Outreach Specialist through the Americorps VISTA program! During their year of paid service, the VISTA will drive forward the economic development of Ajo by empowering the community to take advantage of emerging opportunities in a growing eco- and cultural tourism economy.

The objectives for this position include:
- Establishing Ajo as a center for cultural and educational tourism, workshops and retreats, with the goal of increased economic opportunity for residents;
- Stimulating the creation and development of local micro businesses, using SDCC as a hub for artisanal goods and authentic educational/travel experiences; and
- Creating sustainability for the work to ensure success in growing our marketing/outreach efforts and partnerships with local entrepreneurs/micro businesses after the year of service ends.
What does this really mean? Our VISTA will be designing marketing materials to target niche groups (arts, higher ed, service learning) and pounding the pavement to get them in the hands of key connectors across the state. They'll be overhauling our print materials, improving our website, and taking our social media to the next level. They'll be following up on warm leads to secure group events in 2019 and beyond. They'll be working with local artists and entrepreneurs to figure out how to get their goods and services to our guests - and make a successful business out of it. We want our guests to be eating unique local foods, exploring local history, engaging with local artists, meeting local legends, and leaving with local souvenirs from their time in Ajo; our VISTA will help us figure out how this can happen more. And finally, they'll be working with our staff to build their capacity to do this work, so we can carry their work forward once their year of service ends.
As a VISTA position, this is a 40 hour/week role and comes with a bi-weekly stipend, housing allowance, end-of-service education award or cash stipend, and reimbursements towards relocation to Ajo. The VISTA will travel to Phoenix and other parts of Arizona for professional development and activities with the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits, who administers VISTA in Arizona for the Corporation for National and Community Service.
